Offshore Driver, Throttleman, Owner
The Port Jefferson, New York native has been a major force in offshore powerboat racing for more than four decades, capturing four national titles and 18 world championships. Mauff took home the 2008 SBI & OSS SuperBoat/SuperCat 850 national titles and 2015 and 2018 SuperBoat/SuperCat 750 national titles. His world championships include the 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018 SuperBoat/SuperCat 750 class crowns, 2019 SuperCat 750, 2008 SuperBoat/SuperCat 850 and 2009 SuperBoat Unlimited titles. One of Mauff’s early jobs was demo’ing Don Aronow’s Cigarettes. Impressed, customer George Gill bought one and asked Mauff to be his throttleman. Success came immediately. Mauff built his first catamaran in 1992 and soon turned to driving. Over the years, his trademark yellow WHM Motorsports Skater SuperCat #5 has come to symbolize victory and sometimes outright domination, as in 2018 when Mauff and throttleman Jay Muller raced to the Super Boat International “Triple Crown,” winning the World, National and Florida championships. Mauff has won numerous awards, including the 2024 John Carbonell Memorial Award for Competitive Spirit and Sportsmanship.
