Wally Parks, Icon of American Motorsports

Wally Parks personified the values of leadership, innovation, teamwork and competitive spirit that are central to the mission of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. Because he was single handedly responsible for a huge part of the U.S. motor racing heritage the Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserve, Wally was inducted in 1993.

He and Barbara returned many times to join our annual celebration as more drag racers took their rightful places alongside the greatest achievers in every form of motorized competition. His unparalleled gifts as a communicator, his warmth and positive energy illuminated each visit.

During the time his namesake museum was being developed in the lane next to ours, he always arrived brimming with curiosity, helpful advice and sincere empathy. Year after year, he freely shared his wisdom and unique insight with fellow members of our Nominating Committee to help insure the highest quality drag racing inductees.

Not only were we able to honor this giant in motorsports history during his lifetime, but we were truly blessed by having him as a friend and member of the Hall of Fame family. We take great pride in the fact that the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America will be one of the places where his memory will be cherished forever.
